What is FreePOP?
FreePOP is an ActiveX control that allows read and delete access to a POP3 mailbox and the messages in the mailbox. This ActiveX control was developed with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0-SP4.

What is new?
Version 4.1.1 was released on November 4, 2001.

Bugs fixed

In version 2.0.3 I implemented a workaround for servers who didn't comply to the RFC and implement the TOP and UIDL commands. Somewhere along the line, I broke this workaround, but this workaround functionality has now been restored.
A user reported a problem using the .RetriveCurrentMsg where the program was determining a timeout. This particular user's email server was sending part of the message termination string across two packets and FreePOP didn't anticipate this particular situation. This particular behavior is now accounted for correctly.

Changes

Previously, the control forced one to use the .WriteCurrentMsgToFile if the message was determined to be larger than 64K. I initially thought this was the size limit of a string, but this is indeed not the case with current versions of Visual Basic. What initially led me to believe this was receiving run time errors when testing the control when the .MsgContents got over 64K in size. Indeed I was receiving a run time error, but it was not due to the size of the string, but because I was trying to assign the contents of the string to a VB TextBox control. It simply assumed the string was at fault, when in fact it was a limitation of the TextBox control.

Installation

Full kit:	FreePOP_Full.zip	(1,507K)
	Unzip the files into a directory Run the SETUP.EXE, and follow the directions. A documentation file will be found in the C:\Program Files\FreePOPcontrol directory
Minimal kit:	FreePOP_Minimal.zip	(42K)
	Unzip the files into a directory Copy the FPOP411.OCX to your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory Execute the command: REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\FPOP411.OCX You should be able to work fine if you are using VB version 6 with SP4 installed.
